Wimbledon North
Wimbledon North's residential character is varied, with changes of ground, materials and architectural detail. For a period-house repaint here, the useful question is how each part of the building contributes to the whole, from the gable to the front-door joinery.

A spacious residential character with variation
The council assessment describes residential development from the nineteenth century onwards, with a spacious character and variety in materials and topography. It divides the conservation area into smaller character areas rather than applying one architectural description throughout. That distinction matters for decoration: the relevant part of the assessment and the actual elevation should inform the brief together.
Gables, porches and substantial houses
The detailed North assessment records large turn-of-century houses with Arts & Crafts influences, including projecting bays, gables and porches. These features can place small areas of painted timber beside larger unpainted surfaces. Identify those boundaries on photographs before choosing a coating or colour. Include the undersides, returns and sheltered recesses where required, while making clear which architectural materials are outside the painting instruction.
A room sequence for a substantial home
A large house can offer flexibility, but moving furniture, keeping bedrooms available and retaining a usable kitchen still need a joined-up plan. We discuss the house by floor and by daily use before proposing stages. Samples should be considered beside retained floors and joinery in each part of the interior, so a coherent scheme can accommodate rooms with different light and proportions.
Check controls before changing an exterior
Conservation-area designation, listing and an Article 4 direction are separate checks. Use Merton's current maps and the schedule applying to the property to establish what is controlled; the name Wimbledon North alone does not determine permission for a particular repaint. Where consent advice or an application is required, our sister company handles that work before the relevant decorative treatment is instructed.
