Wimbledon Painters & Decorators

A clear brief, from sample to handover.

A decorating commission works best when the small decisions are visible before work begins. We develop the instruction around the building's condition, the finish you want and the arrangements needed to make each room or elevation available.

Understand what the repaint needs to achieve

Explain why the work is being considered: a new interior scheme, a worn exterior, a move between homes or a change of tenancy. Include the address, photographs and the rooms or elevations involved. Tell us which features and finishes are staying, and identify the person who can approve the work. That gives the first discussion a concrete starting point.

Separate preparation from unresolved repairs

Review the surfaces individually and record damaged areas, loose coatings or staining that need a decision. Establish which work forms part of decorative preparation and which needs another instruction or investigation. Permissions and building requirements should be checked at the same stage. An unresolved defect should have an identified owner before it becomes hidden beneath a new finish.

Record the accepted finish

Consider samples in the rooms or on the elevation concerned, alongside the materials that will remain. Agree the colour, sheen and product for each element, including any contrast between walls and joinery. Keep those references with the surface schedule. Where approval is required, the decorative specification must describe the treatment that has actually been accepted.

Set out the working sequence

Agree entry, storage, protection and the order in which spaces become available. For a family home, relate the plan to school, work and the kitchen. For a flat, incorporate the shared-building arrangements. Identify when a sample, repair or newly revealed issue needs an owner's decision, with a clear route for agreeing any change to the instruction.

Review the work and keep the references

Inspect the surfaces against the agreed scope and record the action for any remaining item. Arrange the return of furniture and fittings in line with the chosen finish's drying and use guidance. Retain the colour and product record for later maintenance, so a future enquiry can refer to an identifiable specification rather than a colour remembered from a sample card.
